Wuhan Fighting! Written, sung and produced by 周武正王Jack Zhou (grade seven student).
When we launched our “Daystar United Against Coronavirus” initiative two weeks ago, it was hard to envision the outcome. Everything was on a voluntary basis. The goal was simply to come together as a community, despite being separated from one another during this time.
And come together, we certainly did.
We received over 250 wonderful submissions from our students and staff. They ranged from drawings, paintings, words of encouragements, poem recitals, playing the piano, to an original rap song from a seventh grader. The breadth, passion, and sincerity of each and every work were simply overwhelming.
Last Tuesday, we shared the videos showcasing all of the submissions, and friends and families of Daystar community have been generously donating. We had set a modest goal of 20,000 RMB. To date, we have already received over 34,382 RMB in donations.
But it’s not about the amount raised. It’s about so much more than that. Let's hear directly from the students, parents, and teachers.
"I wanted to, through my work, send my gratitude to all the medical staff fighting on the frontline and trying to defeat the virus. And I hope that the outbreak can come to an end soon, and they can return home and meet with their families as soon as possible."
-- Tia Xu,Grade 4 student
"I feel so bad for the people of Wuhan city. I can’t even imagine how difficult it is for all the people there fighting against the coronavirus. I want to do my best and give them a little bit encouragement, so I got excited and sang the Chinese national anthem my teacher taught me. I hope Wuhan city can defeat the virus soon."
-- Eric Song ,CASA student
"My child always wanted to do something to help after knowing about this coronavirus outbreak. So, I’m glad that Daystar has organized such activities to give our children an opportunity to speak out, and encourage them to be kind and helpful."
-- Parent of He Yiyan, Grade 1 student
"I think the “Daystar Against Coronavirus Project” is the perfect testament to the type of community we have at Daystar. Our school has always been rooted in service and it's no surprise that now, during a dire time of need, we are uniting once again to show support to Wuhan and China. Students have voiced that the project “is very meaningful and interesting, and can help spread empathy."
-- Anna Zhu , Secondary School Visual Arts Teacher
Apart from the donation, family and friends of Daystar Community also left numerous messages of love and support to show solidarity with the people in Wuhan and others who have been affected by the virus.
Students, parents, colleagues and friends of Daystar Academy, thank you for your warm support. You have helped us play a small role in China’s resolute and collective fight against COVID-19. So, please accept our sincere thanks and gratitude. Wuhan, Jiayou. China, Jiayou. |
